Features and Benefits of Danelec VDR Systems

A voyage data recorder, or VDR, is a device used to collect data from different sensors on board. This recording system is necessary for all vessels to comply with the International Convention SOLAS requirements of the IMO. The data collected on a VDR is then digitized, compressed, and stored in a protective storage unit that’s externally mounted. This tamper-proof storage unit is engineered to withstand shock, pressure, heat, and impact. This device plays a huge role in the investigation of whether a vessel is involved in an accident. The purpose of VDR goes beyond accident investigation; the recorded data can be used for preventive maintenance, heavy weather damage analysis, accident avoidance,  performance efficiency monitoring, and training purposes.

With exceptional quality, Danelec VDRs are designed to support the evolving needs of your maritime operations. Danelec’s impressive collection of VDRs can offer you peace of mind and help you stay ahead while navigating the seas. Let’s learn more about the features and benefits of Danelec VDR Systems.

Introducing Danelec’s Next-Gen VDR Systems

Danelec offers a wide range of VDR systems that are simple and durable to suit different vessel needs. Three standout models from Danelec are: DM100 VDR, DM100 S-VDR G2, and DM100L VDR.

DM100 VDR

Danelec DM100 VDR

The first-ever VDR on the market by Danelec, this model, with the 2014 VDR standards, is IMO compliant. This model features the SWAP technology and is specifically designed for maritime applications. The DM100 VDR is lightweight, easy to install, and offers high-quality and durability. The DM100 VDR is Wheelmark approved by DNV GL and is suitable for passenger ships as well as cargo vessels of 3.000 GT and above.

Key Features:

  • Hot-swappable memory card for secure and fast data transfer
  • Reduced man-hours and in-port delays due to onboard repair capabilities
  • Remote accessibility and 24/7 global support
  • Application-specific design for maritime durability

DM100 S-VDR G2

Danelec DM100 VDR

Built on the most recent technological foundation, Danelec’s new generation simplified VDR satisfies all of the original S-VDR performance specifications. Features previously exclusive to VDRs are now available with the new DM100 S-VDR G2. Every new feature developed for DM100 VDR is inherently compatible with the DM100 S-VDR G2.

Key Features:

  • Compact and lightweight design for easy retrofitting
  • Fast and affordable replacement of other VDR brands (50+ supported)
  • Danelec’s exclusive SWAP technology for equipment replacement
  • Real-time data monitoring and play
  • Cybersecurity to protect against unauthorized access
  • Seamless integration with ship-to-shore communication via DanelecConnect

DM100L VDR

Danelec DM100 VDR

Built on the same platform as the DM100 VDR, Danelec’s new generation of light VDRs offers the same recording capabilities as a full, type-approved VDR system. The key difference is that this non-mandatory DM100 L-VDR does not require a fixed or float-free capsule, making it ideal for vessels that are not legally required to install a VDR. It’s designed for ship owners who still want to responsibly document voyage data, monitor their vessel for efficient management, or utilize remote ship-to-shore solutions.

Key Features:

  • Enables documentation of voyage-related data
  • Real-time monitoring enhances ship management
  • Future-proof hardware design
  • Compatible with DanelecConnect for ship-to-shore data sharing
  • SWAP technology facilitates quick and easy equipment replacement
  • APT certificates and service history are accessible

Vessel Remote Server & Danelec Connect

DanelecConnect vessel remote server

Danelec Vessel Remote Server (VRS) is the combination of a robust, cost-efficient purpose-built aggregation point for all sensor data on board a vessel and a connectivity module for transferring the collected data to shore. VRS is a secure and flexible data aggregation system that collects information from any type of ship sensor via Remote Data Interfaces (RDIs). The system is compatible with all VDR makes and models, and even works on vessels without a VDR. Using a segregated network and a TPM device, VRS ensures high data security while allowing you to select and pre-process data to minimize bandwidth. It serves as a maritime IoT gateway, enabling remote VDR access, asset management, and advanced third-party analytics for performance and fuel optimization.

Danelec Connect is a maritime digitalization solution built on two decades of expertise as a leading VDR manufacturer. It’s a 6-step process that collects and pre-processes vessel data on board, transfers it to the Danelec server (Danelec Cloud solution), where data is stored. It allows authorized users to extract and analyze it via a dashboard or remote applications.
